What is Fingerpicking ?

FINGERPICKING : the pleasure of fingers play

Fingerpicking is a right hand technique without a pick in which the thumb plays alternating basses while the other fingers play a melody.

It allows you to play alone like an orchestra because the guitarist plays at the same time:

  • Some percussion , through the snare drum effect due to the movements to strike the string
  • Some melody , thanks to the arpeggios
  • An accompaniement , playing the chords.

It's a demanding technique because it requires developing the agility of almost all the fingers of the right hand as well as the synchronization between all these fingers.

However, fingerpicking can be tackled by beginners who discover the instrument by adapting the difficulty of the pieces the student is working on.
